Book sales in Erie are a fun part of the year for anyone who likes flipping through stacks of books, finding a title they’ve been curious about, or just getting great reads at low prices. The Friends of the Erie County Library organize a series of sales that run throughout the year, and each one has its own feel and crowd.

Book Lover’s Sale, February 12-14, 2026

Early in the year, you get the Book Lover’s Sale. This one usually happens in February at the Blasco Memorial Library. It’s a cozy sale with mystery and romance paperbacks, nonfiction, and often some media like CDs and DVDs. Because it’s inside the library and not huge, it’s easy to wander the tables without feeling rushed.

Swing into Spring Book Sale, May 21-23, 2026

In May, there’s the Swing into Spring Book Sale. It’s a seasonal pick-me-up with everything from children’s books to travel guides, history titles to hobbies. The selection changes each year, and it’s a great time to stop in if you’re ready to trade winter reading for something new.

The Great American Book Sale, June 14-19, 2026

Summer in Erie means one big event people plan around. The Great American Book Sale runs for several days in June and brings in a huge selection of books at very low prices. You’ll find thousands of titles, including hardcover fiction, large paperbacks, audiobooks, puzzles, and sometimes specialty books on topics like cooking or local history. It’s the sale that draws the biggest crowd, and a lot of people come back year after year to see what’s new on the tables.

S-BOOK-Tacular Book Sale, October 15-17, 2026

Later in the year, there’s the S-BOOK-Tacular Book Sale in the fall. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something to read as the weather cools. There are usually lots of fiction options, seasonal reads, and maybe some DVDs and puzzles mixed in.

Local volunteers run all these sales and are part of what keeps book lovers coming back to Erie year after year. People show up looking for bargains, but also just to spend some time browsing and chatting about titles they love.

How Do We Contribute?

Part of what we do in our book cleanout work ties right into these events. Instead of letting books sit unread or get tossed out, we make sure thousands of them get donated to the Erie County Public Library every year. Those books get folded into sales or added to library collections, where they can be used again by readers of all ages.
